I am retired but STILL passionate about learning and making it relevant to today's world. I continue to love my job at IHS and IJHS and the opportunity it gives me to keep on passionately educating. Thank you for giving me a chance. My goals include working on transforming our students into 21st century learners. This does not mean throwing away all of the old. We need all past knowledge. That is our data base.We are in a constant state of change in our lives, in our world and in education. Love keeping my eye on the goal of Standards set by ISTE! If you have doubts about education today..PLEASE come and visit!!
We need to know as much knowledge as we can get from the oodles of sources of that knowledge. To me this means making connections with the past through sharing, learning, researching, oral history from our elders, exploring all of history, learning writing skills so we can share, reading, calculating AND exploring new horizons. That is where technology comes in.
ttp://www.funeducationalapps.com/2011/08/back-to-school-40-best-science-ipad-apps-for-students.html. Check this out!! Science ipad apps!! Includes Chemistry,Biology, Astronomy, Science Reference Sources, Misc Science Sources and ipad apps as tools such as a seismograph app. Woo Hoo! I want to teach science again.
Today I am feeling dysfunctional. I have discovered that new ideas have to come very slow. I have rediscovered that time moves slower than my ideas of a technology utopia. Yes I am discouraged. Trying to just slow down my mind today and focus on the library part of my job.
Some of my ideas for a digital only class for my junior high kids involves using various pieces of our digital world such as flipcams (probably a dying piece of equipment), digital cameras, maybe phones too. I want them to see a way to use technology in everyday life. Picasa is a great way to use photos to send to others by providing only a link. Therefore if you love to send pictures like I do you do not overwhelm the email of the person you sent them to. Also from Picasa you can send pictures to you blog easily. You also have permanent groups of people to send pictures to by setting up groups such as family, work group, close friends.
